Dry clean recommended. Hand wash cold in gentle cycle, lay flat to dry.

Hand wash in cold water — Baby alpaca fiber has no lanolin, so cold water and a gentle detergent are enough to clean it without stripping its natural softness.
Skip the dryer — Heat causes alpaca fibers to felt and shrink; lay the piece flat on a towel and let it air dry instead.
Reshape while damp — Ease your beanie or swatch back into shape right after washing, before it fully dries.
Store folded, not hung — Baby alpaca is heavier than wool; hanging can stretch a finished piece out of shape over time.
Dry clean for a deeper refresh — Most dry cleaners across the US, including in the Pacific Northwest and New England, can safely handle alpaca fiber.

Alpaca fiber is naturally self-cleaning — airing is usually sufficient. Professional cleaning only when needed. Machine washing is not recommended.

Air it out regularly — Baby alpaca fiber naturally resists odor and dust mites, so a few hours outdoors or by an open window usually keeps it fresh.
Avoid the washing machine — Agitation and heat break down the fiber's loft and structure; alpaca doesn't behave like down or synthetic fill.
Spot clean small marks — Use a damp cloth and mild soap for spills; avoid soaking the piece.
Professional cleaning for a deep clean — Choose a cleaner experienced with natural fibers, not a standard dry cleaner.
Store flat or loosely folded — Avoid compressing it for long periods, which flattens the fill.
